The Pohatcong Recreation Association held a meeting on Thursday May 10, 2001 with 16 people present, including Dale Cells, President; Rich Etter, Vice President; Donna Diehl, Treasurer; and Karen Clasen, Secretary. The April minutes were read and approved.

 

                                        TREASURER’S REPORT

                                                SPORTS

 

CHEERING: Jeannie Vail reported 60 children have signed up for the fall season and the grades for the squads have been changed. Flag will be K-1st grade, PeeWee 2nd -3rd grade, Biddy 4th-5th grade, and Midgets 6th-8th grade. The Flag and Peewee squads are full. Jeannie plans to send out another notice at school, and then a week after send out notices to Greenwich, and Bloomsbury schools. Practice for Biddy and Midget squads will begin in the middle ofJune and sign ups will officially be closed at the time Clinic uniforms are ordered. The new uniforms for the Peewee squad have arrived. Jeannie has requested to purchase approximately 27 jackets at $40.00 a piece, this will be discussed at the next meeting.

 

 

FOOTBALL: Rich Etter reported sign-ups were held with 18-20 children on the Flag, PeeWee, and Biddy teams, and 8 on the Midget team. The announcement for Speed Camp was advertised in the newspaper. Dennis requested the purchase of letter “P” for the helmets. The association approved the purchase of 70 pairs at $3.00/pair. Rich reported the variance application for the scoreboard has been completed and will be brought to the Township in June for approval. The question of accepting the Gallagher children back into the football program was reviewed, the Association has decided that Rich must speak with John Gallagher and advise him that the children will be allowed to join, but John WILL NOT be allowed to participate at any position.

 

SOCCER:  Darrell Swinicki reported 108 children have signed up for the fall season. New fliers have been distributed to Alpha, and sign ups will be held on May 19th.

 

WRESTLING: Bob Moyer reported the Team party was held on Sunday at the Huntington Firehouse. All uniforms have been returned except for a few.

 

 BASKETBALL:  Dale Cells reported that Mike Duffy is not interested in returning as the Basketball Director.

  

SOFTBALL:  No Report

 

BASEBALL: Dale Cells reported all teams are doing fine. The Midgets are undefeated, and 1 Biddy team is undefeated so far this season. The Juniors are practicing and sign ups are still open. The Peewee team had 1 accident where a child was hit in the forehead with a bat. Dale has advised all coaches that on deck circles must be lined at all playing fields.

           

HOCKEY: Jim Kern reported 26children have joined as of the May 4th sign ups. Jim has scheduled another sign up for May19th. The fundraiser will be a coin toss on Saturday June 23rd.  Games will be held on Saturday mornings, and Tuesday and Thursday nights. Jim reported equipment needs to be ordered, and the trailer needs painting.

 

                                         TOWNSHIP REPORT

 

Stephen Keyhayes reported the Budget has passed the first reading. The Township will pass an ordinance to waive the fees for the scoreboard variance. Ticks are a problem at Crestwood Field, Steve will see if the Township can spray, or knock down the brush on the hill. Dale has requested that information be obtained regarding the 1 acre of land owed to the Township from the Wal-Mart Plaza. Dale feels that the catch basin would be an ideal soccer field.

 

                                         COMMITTEE REPORT

                                         OLD BUSINESS

 

 Jay Cronce submitted a bylaw proposal to institute a Grievance Committee. The proposal states:

 

A motion is hereby made to add the following rule to the existing Pohatcong Township Recreational bylaws, which shall read as follows:

 

A “Grievance Committee” shall be established consisting of 4 voting members, the President of the Pohatcong Recreation Association and two alternate voting members, to handle any complaints lodged against any head or assistant coaches. Selection of the general members shall be by nomination and majority member vote and shall be elected on a yearly basis at the same time as the general elections. If the President of the P.R.A is not available or has conflict of interest, then the V.P.  of the P.R.A shall be made a member of the Grievance Committee for that particular situation. In the event the President and the V.P. shall have conflicts or be unavailable then the Secretary (and then the Treasurer) shall be made a member of the Grievance Committee for that particular situation. In the event a committee member is the individual of whom the complaint is against, or is the person filing the complaint or is unavailable or otherwise unable to deal with the matter in an unbiased manner, then 1st or 2nd alternate member shall preside over that particular matter of complaint. In order for a complaint to be reviewed by said committee, the person(s) making the complaint shall have first spoken to the head coach of the team of which the complaint is based. Secondly, the person(s) filing the complaint shall contact and discuss the grievance with the Director of the applicable recreational program. Third, the person(s) filing the complaint shall contact the President of the Pohatcong Recreation. In the event the person(s) filing the complaint is not satisfied as to the outcome or the handling of the complaint after attempting to settle the matter in the preceding manner, then said complaint should be submitted in writing to the Grievance Committee. The Grievance Committee shall the review and discuss the complaint with the coach involved, the Director of the Recreational Program and the person(s) filing the complaint. The Grievance Committee shall also investigate the matter further by speaking to other people having knowledge of the situation. After, the Grievance Committee has finished its investigation of the complaint the President or a member of the committee appointed by the President shall contact the person filing the complaint to inform them as to the outcome of and the method by which the complaint will be resolved. All decisions made by the Grievance Committee shall be derived from a majority vote method and shall be final. All grievances shall be settled within two weeks from the time a written complaint is received by the Grievance Committee.

 

The second reading was completed. The third and final reading will be completed at the next meeting and then the Association will vote.

 

Darrell submitted to Dale Cells a quote from the Bloomsbury Firehouse, for the All Sports Banquet.

 

Dale Cells has written a “Players Code of Conduct” which will be used for ALL programs.
