The Pohatcong Recreation Association held a meeting on Thursday December 13, 2001 with 14 people present, including Dale Cells, President; Keith Bray, Vice President; Donna Diehl, Treasurer and Karen Clasen, Secretary. The November minutes were read and approved.

CHEERING:

FOOTBALL:   Dennis Brousseau reported that coaches are still needed for the Flag and Peewee teams. The Midget coaches will be Kerry Connell and Dave Abel, and the Biddy coach will be John Gurski. Dale Cells spoke with John Gallagher he will NOT be back next year for the football program. Dale has asked that a member of the Association review the parent’s code of ethics, Bob O’Leary has volunteered, this will be discussed at the next meeting.

 

SOCCER:  Darrell Swinicki reported all of the equipment has been put away and Chris Meeny now has the keys for the storage shed.

 

WRESTLING: Bob Moyer reported the season has started with 1 win, and 1 loss, a scrimmage was held tonight. The new uniforms are in, and the team has had a couple of injuries this season. Bob has addressed an issue regarding a coach who allegedly grabbed a child and left marks on this child’s neck. Bob has spoken with both the coach and parent and has resolved this situation, however if another issue arises again the coach will be dismissed. The officers will speak with the coaches regarding these issues on Tues 12/18/01. It was also decided that wrestling practice will NOT be held unless Bob Moyer or officers are present at the practice. Nancy Deska has come to the Asscioation to ask for a waiver for her son Daniel, to allow him to wrestle for Alpha. Nancy and her son are unhappy with the assistant coaching of the team. The Association voted to allow the waiver for Daniel Deska.

 

  

BASKETBALL:  Darrell Swinicki reported the season started on Saturday and all is good. The league has stipulated that all referee’s must be paid in advance of the scheduled games. The league has instituted a no jewelry policy. The referee’s are responsible for entering the game scores into the CBL web site.

 

SOFTBALL:  Dale Hummer reported the league held a meeting last month, the league has stated that if a child is playing for the Phillipsburg 7th/8th grade program that they are ineligible to play for the Township program. Dale Cells questioned this as all of the other programs are allowing dual rosters.  Dale Hummer will check into this further and advise the Association at the next meeting.

 

BASEBALL: Dale Cells reported that next year T-ball will be age 5 years, Peewee will be age 6 years, and Biddy will have 2 teams, one will be age 7 and 8 years, and one will be 9 and 10 years. The older Biddy team will have an All-star game at the end of the season. The Phillipsburg 7th/8th-grade program will use the Huntington Field for practice; Mike Rossetti will be the coach for this team.

                         TOWNSHIP REPORT

                                         COMMITTEE REPORT

The quotes have been received for the Huntington Field addition to the concession stand. To add a 22’x10’ addition the cost will be approximately $6,600.00 (this does not include the roof) in all Keith Bray has stated that the worst case will be no more than $7,000.00. The Association has agreed to proceed with this project. Keith Bray reported that Mr. Jiorle will not begin to break ground for the baseball field at the school until spring of next year, the cost for the survey will be approximately $2,000.00. The next project will be to erect  a storage shed at the Crestwood Field.

 

 

                                        OLD BUSINESS

Dale Cells reported he has not heard anything regarding the proposed Powder Puff Girls Football League.

                                        

 

                                         NEW BUSINESS

Dale Cells reported that prices have been received for the Sports Banquet, The Clarion Hotel has quoted $17.00 per adult, $8.50 for children under 12 years. It was decided that that the Bloomsbury Fire House and Flynn’s would be too small to accommodate the number of people who attend the banquet. Dale has suggested that the Association charge $20.00 per adult and $10.00 per child this year.

 

Jim Burke made a motion to adjourn the meeting, and Jim Kern seconded the motion. It was voted  unanimously, passed and the meeting was adjourned.
